So, Christmas isn't my husband's thing. He could certainly just do without all the presents, the decorations, the hustle and bustle, the parties, the lights -- In general, he could just do without all the hype. Seriously, it's his least favorite time of year.
It should come as no surprise then this Christmas aversion has earned my husband the nickname "The Grinch." And it's a title he wears proudly.
While I could never see my husband swooping through the village to steal everyone's presents, I could certainly envision him scornfully looking down at the Christmas noise and hub-bub from high atop Mt. Crumpet, just as his namesake did.
Believe me, these little treats are so good even The Grinch in your life will love them!
I do believe the original animated How the Grinch Stole Christmas is the greatest Christmas movie of all time. It's one I've watched since I was a little girl, and still love watching to this day. Somehow, it's just not Christmas without watching that vile and resentful Grinch and his adorable little dog, Max, ultimately end up filled with the Christmas spirit.
And I absolutely love all the holiday treats inspired by mean-old Mr. Grinch. Who doesn't just adore a Grinch-y green, red-heart-adorned Christmas treat? -- That heart representing the growth of the Christmas spirit within Mr. Grinch himself.
These little treats are so good, even The Grinch in your life will love them. -- Mine does! Though unfortunately, I don't think I'll see them grow his Christmas spirit.
Use a package of white candy melts or white bark coating. Melt it together with a tiny bit of shortening in the microwave per the package directions (typically in 30 second intervals, stirring in between each time). The shortening helps make the white chocolate easier to work with, and helps create a nice smooth coating on the sugar wafers.
Grinch White Chocolate Sugar Wafers are super easy to whip up, delicious, and perfectly Grinchy for the holiday season.
Choose a small deep bowl or a tall narrow microwave-safe container to melt the white chocolate in. These container shapes make it easier to get good coverage when dipping the sugar wafers in.
Dip 3/4 of each sugar wafer cookie in the candy coating, and then let the excess coating drip off back into the container. I very gently jiggle the sugar wafer a few times to help the excess fall off, and create a nice even thin coating of white chocolate.
As you dip more sugar wafers and the amount of melted white chocolate in the container gets less and less, tip the container slightly as you dip to help get better coverage up the sugar wafer.
I find it easiest to sprinkle the sprinkles over a plate with a little lip on the edge or well in the center. That way, sprinkles aren't bouncing off all over your house - the plate catches at least most of the spillover.
Set the dipped-and-sprinkled sugar wafer on a wax paper or aluminum foil-lined baking sheet. Then place one large heart-shaped sprinkle off-center on the dipped sugar wafer, pressing it down slightly & gently with your finger to adhere it into the white chocolate coating.
Be careful not to press the heart sprinkle too hard into the coating though, or you'll end up with white chocolate coating flooded up onto the edges and front of the heart.
And that's all there is to whipping up a batch of these fun little Grinchy treats!
Serve up a platter at a Grinch-themed party, bring them for a fun classroom treat, or enjoy them for snacking throughout the holiday season. They're perfect for just about any Christmas celebration.
