Ham & Cheese Party Sandwiches
Whip up a batch of these classic Ham & Cheese Party Sandwiches, and watch them disappear. They're perfect little sliders for any occasion ... from game day to baby showers, and any kind of party in between!
I am hard-pressed to recall the first time I had these classic little Ham & Cheese Party Sandwiches. And while I don't remember our introduction, what I do remember is it was love at first bite.
With melty cheese, warm thin-sliced ham, and a full-of-flavor buttery spread packed inside soft and tasty little rolls, what's not to love?
They're a party classic, for sure.
Especially given how easy they are to make. And how quickly they're gobbled up.
Traditionally, these Ham & Cheese Party Sandwiches are built on Hawaiian sweet rolls. You know, the ones that come in the bright orange package with the little cardboard tray inside, surrounding a dozen attached little rolls. But any package of little rolls can be used just fine.
Slice the rolls open horizontally, keeping them otherwise attached to each other. A long serrated bread knife works best.
Then spread the cut sides of both the tops and bottoms with a butter, mustard, onion, and poppy seed mixture. Pile layers of deli-sliced Swiss cheese and ham onto the bottom portion of the rolls and set the top roll portion back on. Then wrap the whole thing up in foil and bake until warm and melty.
That's it!
Now, one thing I've found that makes these ham & cheese party sandwiches easier to serve and eat is to cut them before baking.
Before wrapping the party sandwiches in foil to bake, use a serrated knife to cut them on their "lines" between each roll, separating them into individual sandwiches. Leave them all squished together, though, like they're still one intact sheet of rolls when you wrap them up in the foil.
Cutting them pre-bake like this makes them much easier to grab and serve after baking ... without pulling all the filling out while trying to pull them apart.
Serve these little sliders warm and melty right out of the oven for one tasty party treat. But don't worry, they're still delicious after they cool down, too.
If they last that long, that is. Because truly, no matter what occasion you serve these for, you'll be watching them quickly disappear.

ingredients:
- 2 (12-count) packages Hawaiian sweet rolls {I use King's Hawaiian}
- 1/2 lb. Swiss cheese slices
- 3/4 to 1 lb. sliced deli ham
- 1/2 c. (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 T. very finely chopped onion
- 1 ½ T. prepared yellow mustard
- 1 ½ T. poppy seeds
- 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- pinch salt
- pinch pepper
instructions:
How to cook Ham & Cheese Party Sandwiches
- In a small bowl, mix together butter, onion, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper until well combined. Add poppy seeds and stir to combine.
- With a serrated knife, slice rolls open horizontally. Place each bottom portion on a sheet of aluminum foil {sprayed lightly with non-stick cooking spray} large enough to wrap up the full package of rolls. Spread the cut side of each top and bottom portion of the rolls evenly with butter mixture.
- Cover the bottom portion of the rolls with a layer of Swiss cheese slices. Pile cheese slices with a layer of ham. Place top portion of rolls on top.
- Wrap each set of rolls in foil. Bake at 350℉ for 20 – 25 minutes until heated through and cheese is melted. Serve warm.
TRACEY'S NOTES
- Most people combine about 3 T. melted butter with about 1/8 tsp. poppy seeds and brush this over the tops of the rolls before baking. This looks nice on the finished rolls, and is what I did for the ones in the photos of this post. I actually prefer not to do this, though, because it makes for greasy fingers when eating the party sandwiches.
