How to Make Snow Cream {+ 5 Different Flavors of Snow Ice Cream}
Got a snow day? Use these flavor ideas and steps for how to make Snow Cream to add a creamy and delicious snow treat to your snowy day plans!
I played in the snow today! But my kind of playing in the snow is probably a little different than you're thinking. I didn't make snow angels. Or go sledding. Or build a snowman. Or even have a snowball fight with the neighborhood kids. {and I certainly didn't help shovel the driveway}.
Nope.
Fluffy, unpacked snow works best. Just scoop the snow up with a big bowl. Don't pack the snow into the bowl, as this will make your snow cream less creamy.
My kind of playing in the snow was ... to make snow cream! You know, when you turn snow and a couple of other simple ingredients into a made-from-snow-ice-cream-treat? And I played today by whipping up five different flavors of snow cream. Oohhhhhhhh, they were all so good!
When I awoke to this winter wonderland in my backyard this morning ...
And I think the neighbors I made snow cream deliveries to were glad, too!
So what flavors did I make, you ask?
Classic vanilla ... of course ..., chocolate, strawberry, coconut, and maple.
I'm torn on which was my favorite, because I liked them all. But if push came to shove, I think I would have to go with strawberry. It got rave reviews from the neighbors, too!
Though chocolate did get a very enthusiastic "This chocolate is the bomb!" from one of our sweet neighbor boys.
When I know a snowstorm is coming, I place a large bowl or two out on the deck before the storm starts. No snow-scooping involved! my bowl is already full from the snowfall.
If making snow cream is in your plans for playing in the snow, follow these simple steps and recipes for how to make snow cream ... and you'll be enjoying a creamy and delicious snow treat in no time.
When making the creamy snow deliciousness, keep a few tips in mind for the best result.
First, fluffy, unpacked snow works best. Just scoop the snow up with a big bowl. Don't pack the snow into the bowl, as this will make your snow cream less creamy.
Next, you may want to go ahead and plan ahead. When I know a snowstorm is coming, I place a large bowl or two out on the deck before the storm starts. No snow-scooping involved! my bowl is already full from the snowfall.
Finally, it's my experience that snow cream doesn't "hold" well in the freezer. It's best to enjoy it immediately, or to place it {covered} outside in the snow for up to a few hours. Outside works much better than our inside freezers for "keeping" the snow cream.
Also keep in mind, any of these snow cream recipes can easily be halved or doubled, depending on how much you want to make. It's so good though, you may just want to go ahead and plan on that double batch.
