Sweet-&-Spicy Bacon Crackers
Attention, bacon lovers! These Sweet-&-Spicy Bacon Crackers are little bites of bacon deliciousness, perfect for enjoying as a party nibble or fun snack with your favorite cold drink.
My Mom and I collect recipes like crazy. From magazines, from cookbooks, from friends ... you name it. I swear we both have more recipes than we could possibly make in 20 lifetimes, but yet we can still never pass up a great-looking cookbook or tearing out an interesting-looking recipe from the latest magazine.
Quite often, though we live about an hour apart, we'll even find we've torn out the exact same recipes from the latest edition of our favorite magazines.
Which is exactly what happened with the recipe that served as the base starting point for these Sweet-&-Spicy Bacon Crackers.

Mom was over visiting a few weeks ago, and looked down on my kitchen desk to see my latest Southern Living magazine sitting there open to a dog-eared page with their recipe for "Bacon Cracker Bowties." "Hey, I tore out that recipe, too," she said.
Another instance of mother-daughter minds think alike!
Mom hadn't made them yet, though, so I got to introduce her to the finished product both the original and my jazzed-up sweet-&-spicy version.
Now, while the original recipe was indeed good, I felt it needed a little more 'oomph' of flavor. So I turned to a brown sugar and spice mix I use in making spicy praline bacon and gave the bacon crackers a good sprinkling of it on top.
The result?
Out-of-this-world bacon cracker deliciousness!
The mix of crisp crackers, smoky bacon, brown sugar sweetness, and spiciness from chili powder and cayenne pepper is an amazingly tasty combination that certainly makes your taste buds beg for more. In our opinion, so much better than just the crackers and bacon alone.
And this sweet-&-spicy bacon deliciousness isn't hard to make, either.
The mix of crisp crackers, smoky bacon, brown sugar sweetness, and spiciness from chili powder and cayenne pepper is an amazingly tasty combination.
Simply start with some "sturdy" club crackers {see notes in the recipe below about different crackers I tested} and bacon. Cut each strip of bacon into thirds, and wrap a bacon piece around the center of each cracker.
Then sprinkle the tops with a mixture of brown sugar, chili powder, cayenne pepper, and black pepper. Bake until the bacon is cooked through and crisp ... and that's it!
They're just perfect as a fun little party nibble, snack with a cold beer or glass of wine, or even to give as a gift to a bacon lover. {Just make sure the gift will be given and gobbled up within about three days of the crackers being made, as they lose much of their crispness after that.}
So if you're a bacon lover looking for a fun way to enjoy your favorite treat, look no further than these Sweet-&-Spicy Bacon Crackers. They're little bites of bacon deliciousness that will keep you coming back for more, for sure.

Sweet-&-Spicy Bacon Crackers
Attention, bacon lovers! These Sweet-&-Spicy Bacon Crackers are little bites of bacon deliciousness, perfect for enjoying as a party nibble or fun snack with your favorite cold drink.
prep time: 25 Mcook time: 20 Mtotal time: 45 M
ingredients:
- 1 lb. bacon {do not use thick-cut bacon ... it won't cook through quickly enough in the oven}
- about 40 Club crackers
- 1/4 c. brown sugar
- 1 tsp. chili powder
- 1/8 tsp. black pepper
- pinch cayenne pepper
instructions:
How to cook Sweet-&-Spicy Bacon Crackers
- Place brown sugar, chili powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper in a small bowl. Stir until well combined. Set aside.
- Lightly spray a wire rack {I use a cooling rack} with non-stick cooking spray; set the rack in a rimmed baking sheet.
- Cut each bacon slice into 3 equal-sized pieces {I place the entire opened package on a cutting board and cut it into thirds all at once}. Wrap a bacon piece around the center of each cracker, positioning the “seam” on the bottom of each cracker. Place seam-side-down in a single layer on the prepared rack.
- Sprinkle a little of the brown sugar mixture on top of the bacon on each cracker.
- Bake at 250℉ until the bacon is crisp, about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Cool 5 minutes before serving.
TRACEY'S NOTES
- Not all crackers work well for this recipe I tested with several. Keebler Club crackers work best, and are what's used in the photos for this post. Lance Captain's Wafers also work. Keebler Toasteds Buttercrisp round crackers also work, but are not as good as Club crackers and Captain's Wafers. Ritz crackers become soggy and do not work well at all.
- The crackers are best served warm right away or at room temperature within a couple of hours of baking. But we do also enjoy them cold, as well.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator since they include meat. They do, surprisingly, hold a good bit of their crispness for up to about 3 days even when refrigerated.
- I have not tried reheating these. We eat our leftovers cold. If you do want to try reheating them, I recommend trying popping them back in a 250℉ oven for just a few minutes until warmed through.
