Turkey and Stuffing Sliders with Sister Schubert's
Oh you guys, I'm so excited! Not only is it the time of year when I get to enjoy one of my favorite Thanksgiving treats Turkey and Stuffing Sliders Sandwiches with Sister Schubert's Parker House Style Rolls ... next week I'm going to meet Sister Schubert herself! I'm so honored to have been invited to Sister's home and to have Sister Schubert's sponsoring this post.
It's probably no surprise that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. With all the fabulous food prepared for this single day, it's a food blogger's {and food lover's} dream.
And when it comes to making fabulous food for a delicious Thanksgiving meal, our family goes all out ... most of it prepared at the hands of my wonderful Mom.
One thing that's always on our Thanksgiving dinner menu? Sister Schubert's Parker House Style Rolls.
Now, let's talk about this for just a second. Because we're pretty much a make-it-yourself-from-scratch household when it comes to our baked goods.
So if we're a make-it-yourself household, why do we have Sister Schubert's rolls for Thanksgiving dinner, you ask? It's simple. Because Sister Schubert's makes them better than we do. No joke.
See, Mom got overly ambitious one year and made the yeast rolls herself. ... Mom's were absolutely great. Nothing wrong with them at all. But ... Sister Schubert's are better! And since Sister Schubert's rolls go from the freezer to table in just a matter of minutes, they're super easy, too. Probably needless to say, we went back to enjoying Sister Schubert's the next year. And every year since. It's one of our {many} holiday traditions.
And that's one of the many reasons I'm soooooo excited to be traveling to Alabama next week to meet Sister herself. But guess what? I'm not just going to meet her. Nope. ... I'm going to cook dinner with her. At her house. And then sit down with her to share that meal we've prepared together. How cool is that?? Pretty cool, I say.
So I'll be enjoying dinner with Sister Schubert one week, and then Thanksgiving dinner with my family the next. Sweet.
With all the delicious food my Mom cooks up for Thanksgiving dinner, our family has a saying ... when we sit down to the table we say, "It's time to gobble 'til you wobble!" If you saw our table, you'd fully realize just how appropriate this saying is. Every year my Mom says she's going to cut back on what she makes the next year. Every year, ... she doesn't.
Now as much as I love all the Thanksgiving food, that's not the main reason I love Thanksgiving. As we also say in our family ... The food is great. But being together as a family to share it is even better.
I love the family time after the big meal, too.
Usually much of that family time ends up being just me and Mom.
Because after everyone else goes home, my husband usually goes over to see his Mom. And my Dad ... well ... he goes to sleep.
So Mom and I have ended up creating a tradition of our own. And I don't even think Dad realizes it.
At some point late Thanksgiving evening ... once all the dishes are done ... the house is straightened up ... Dad's sound asleep ... and Mom and I have settled down to watch some fun shows together on TV ... Mom and I decide it's time to have a little post-Thanksgiving late night snack.
We get out the leftover Sister Schubert's rolls {not that there are many} ...
... and we whip up a plate of our absolute favorite little Turkey and Stuffing Sliders. Oh, these little sandwiches are just the perfect holiday late-night snack. We just load up the rolls with a little mayo, turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce. Mmmm, they're sooo good.
I like mine loaded with extra stuffing. Mom likes hers with extra cranberry sauce.
I'm getting so excited to set the holiday table and share delicious meals with my family throughout the holiday season. I hope you are, too!
And as for me and Mom on Thanksgiving night, we'll be honoring our long-standing tradition ... whipping up a plateful of these Turkey and Stuffing Slider Sandwiches with Sister Schubert's Parker House Style rolls and enjoying them while we're kicked back watching TV on the couch.
Shhhhhh. Just don't tell Dad, okay? We wouldn't want to interrupt his nap.
{Stayed tuned! I'll be sure to share highlights of my visit with Sister Schubert at her home in Alabama. Look for a post all about it the week of November 24th!}
