Does the combination of chardonnay, cucumber, and lime sound a tad strange?
That's exactly what I thought when I first came across this chardonnay cocktail recipe. But being an avid lover of both chardonnay and wine cocktails {like my Moscato Bee's Knees or Sparkling Apple Pie Cocktail for example}, I of course still had to give it a try.
And you know what?
The cucumber, lime, Chardonnay, and small touch of simple syrup come together to create a really light and refreshing cocktail that's perfect for summer sipping. I guess they don't say "cool as a cucumber" for nothing.
When I enjoy a glass of wine, I typically go for a very bold, oaky, buttery chardonnay. For this cucumber cocktail, however, I suggest going with a lighter, crisper, fruitier chardonnay instead. Fruitier chardonnays pair more nicely with the freshness and lightness of the cucumber and lime than do my favorite stronger-flavored oakey wines.
So if you're like me and just have to give this combination a try, you're in for a great cocktail treat. It truly may just become your new favorite summer sipper!
