Cracker Toffee it's a holiday treat we all know and love. Whether you call it cracker candy, Christmas crack, Saltine toffee, or any of its various other names, we're most certainly all familiar with at least some version of this Christmas-time classic.
It's simply perfect for Christmas snacking, gift giving, and all those Christmas day cookie trays.
I was first introduced to cracker toffee by my sister-in-law. One of her favorite recipes is a graham cracker pralines version, where the graham crackers are slathered with cracker toffee's signature butter-sugar toffee mixture, and then loaded with pecans and chocolate chips.
Whether you call it cracker candy, Christmas crack, Saltine toffee, or any of its various other names, we're most certainly all familiar with at least some version of this Christmas-time classic.
After trying that very first cracker toffee taste from my sister-in-law, I was hooked. I've since come to know many different versions of the tasty stuff, loving each and every one of them.
My new favorite variation?
Peppermint Saltine Cracker Toffee, all dressed up with chocolate and candy canes for Christmas!
Lying just under that all-dressed-up chocolate and candy cane layer is the all-important layer of toffee, made extra delicious with a jolt of peppermint.
In this peppermint cracker toffee version, the toffee layer is infused with peppermint by melting finely crushed candy canes in with the sugar-and-butter mixture. It's a method that works fabulously to spread great peppermint flavor throughout this classic treat.

Creating this Peppermint Saltine Cracker Toffee deliciousness is really quite easy. Simply start by lining a baking pan with a layer of saltine crackers. Then cook up a mixture of brown sugar, butter, and crushed candy canes, pour that over the saltine crackers, and bake it briefly until bubbly.
Immediately while the brown sugar mixture is still hot, sprinkle chocolate chips all over the top. Let the chocolate chips sit for 5 minutes or so to soften ...
Then spread the melted chocolate chips evenly over the crackers. An offset spatula works great for this ...
Sprinkle the chocolate evenly with pecans and more crushed candy canes ...
I recommend placing the pan in the refrigerator for about 15 to 20 minutes to completely chill everything and harden the chocolate.
Once everything's completely cooled, break up the Peppermint Saltine Cracker Toffee into pieces.

ingredients:
- 4 oz. (1 sleeve) saltine crackers
- 1 c. unsalted butter
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 4 large candy canes, finely crushed
- 2 c. (12 oz.) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 3/4 c. chopped pecans
- 3 large candy canes, coarsely crushed

How to cook Peppermint Saltine Cracker Toffee {aka Peppermint Christmas Crack}
- Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper or foil. Lay out saltine crackers in a single layer.
- Combine butter, brown sugar, and the 4 finely crushed candy canes in a saucepan over medium-high heat; bring to a boil. Boil for 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Immediately spread over crackers, working quickly before mixture sets. Bake at 400 degrees for 6 minutes.
- Remove pan from oven. Immediately sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the top; let sit for 5 minutes to soften chocolate chips. Spread melted chocolate evenly over crackers. Sprinkle evenly with pecans and remaining 3 coarsely crushed candy canes.
- Cool completely and break into pieces. {Note Pan can be placed in the refrigerator for about 15 to 20 minutes to fully harden the chocolate.} Store in an airtight container for up to about 2 weeks.
